Department of Physics, Loughborough University, UK
Monday 15th September, 2003
(10.00am - 5.00pm)
The workshop is to cover research in Europe in Josephson and quantum dot implementations of quantum information processing, as well as to discuss the broader context of QIP.
We are inviting a small number of speakers to give talks of about 45 min in length to cover these topics. The workshop will be run by the Loughborough Centre for Quantum Information
Each presentation should be contained in a single file.
TeX users can easily produce a ps file using dvips
Users of any Microsoft Windows application can easily produce a postscript file if they already have a postscript printer installed on their system. In this case one simply needs to select the printer during the print dialogue and check the "Print to File" box. If you do not have a postscript printer already installed then it is possible to set up a fake one, if you know what you are doing.
Email your postscript file to Richard Giles. If you like, you can first convert it to pdf using the facility at ps2pdf.com.
Presenters who cannot easily produce a postscipt or pdf file can submit their word processor document directly. However in that case the conversion will have to be done at this end and may well not yield perfect results. Note that the conversion will be done on a Linux machine, and there is no version of Microsoft Office available for Linux. Neither does Microsoft see fit to publish its MS Office formats to help others write code to process MS Office files. Nevertheless the conversion provided by the competitor free office suite OpenOffice is usually satisfactory.
The thriving market town of Loughborough is situated in the East Midlands in the centre of England. The Department of Physics is located in the Sir David Davies building at the western end of the campus, marked W on the map. Lectures will be held in room W0.02.
Loughborough can be easily reached by road, rail or air. The Department of Physics can be reached in 10 min from Loughborough railway station by taxi, or in 18 min by bus 7 from the station forecourt.
Rail
There is a regular train service from London St. Pancras with a
journey time of approximately 1h 30min; there are direct trains

online rail
timetables.
If arriving by train, take bus 7 (00, 20, 40 minutes past the hour, 19 minute journey) from the station forecourt to the bus stop between the W and T buildings on the map. The bus stops outside the lecture theatre: go in the the door on the left at the top of the steps.
Air
The nearest airports are East Midlands and Birmingham
International. The "no frills" airlines bmibaby and
easyJet serve a number of
European destinations from East Midlands. The following are
suggestions for getting to Loughborough:
For rail connections from the above or elsewhere, see the online rail timetables.
Road
Situated approximately 150 km north of London, the campus lies 2
km from junction 23 of the M1 motorway. If coming by car, you
should use the western (Holywell) entrance, closest to Junction 23.
If staying in Burleigh Court, follow the signs there; otherwise
park in car park 1 (P1 on the
map.)
To register and submit your abstract, use the online form.
The fee will be £30 (£20 for students, free for invited speakers) payable by cash or sterling cheque before arrival. Cheques should be made payable to Loughborough University and sent to: Dr M B Sobnack, Department of Physics, Loughborough University, Loughborough, LE11 3TU.
