Joint International Workshop on "Nanosensors and Arrays of Quantum
Dots and Josephson Junctions for space applications"
Björkliden, Kiruna, Sweden,
April 1-8, 2006
|

|
The workshop will be organised jointly by Loughborough University, UK
and Chalmers University, Gothenburg,
Sweden under the auspices of the
AQDJJ Programme, which is funded by the European Science Foundation
Aim and Scope
The physics of artificial structures of reduced dimensionality is one of
the main emerging areas of condensed matter physics, and may form the basis
of future terahertz electronics and quantum computing technology. The
Workshop aims to cover these developments, in particular the following
aspects:
- arrays of Josephson junctions (JJ),
- arrays of nanoparticles and of quantum dots,
- semiconductor and other types of superlattices
- arrays of small magnetic particles
- photonic band gap materials
- interaction of electromagnetic radiation with all types of arrays
- applications to quantum computing
- tunneling phenomena
- Nonequilibrium effects in mesoscopic structures
- Novel concepts of ultrasensitive detectors for IR and submillimeter
waves;
- Novel electronics based on Nanotubes and Nanowires
- Electron cooling by SIN tunnel junctions; Cryogenics
- Analog and digital readout systems; imaging arrays of bolometers;
multiplexing
- Quasioptics and HF Filtering; coupling with bolometers
- Radioastronomy in submm/IR regions
- Single-photon detectors. THz imaging;
The workshop aims at reviewing the fundamentals and outlining the research
perspectives on the use of these systems which have very complex physics. All
aspects of the physics of systems made of small circuits and large arrays of
many different types of nano-elements will be covered.
Structure
The Workshop will consist of:
- oral presentations (30 mins),
- posters ,
- round table discussions.
English is the official language.
Ph.D. students and young researchers are encouraged to participate, as
well as to submit their work for poster presentation. This will give them the
chance of discussing their research with colleagues and outstanding
scientists in the field.
Registration and Fees
All registration will be done using the online registration form which can be accessed from this link.. We assume that the costs of hotel and meals per person will be
about 1000 Euro for single room (~850 Euro for staying in double room) plus
~150 Euro registration fee. Those registering from ESF
member countries will be informed if they will need to pay the fee
themselves; others should enquire directly. Travel expenses will not be
reimbursed.
Venue, Accommodation and Social Programme
The workshop will be held at the resort of Bjorkliden near the town of
Kiruna, Sweden.
Information about Bjorkliden:
Travel
Participants are recommended to fly to one of the Swedish airports and then
take a train to Kiruna or take a local airline flight..
