Hotel Medena, Medena, Split, Croatia
21st-27th October, 2004
The workshop will be run by the Department of Physics, Loughborough University under the auspices of the AQDJJ network, which is funded by the European Science Foundation
The physics and the properties of materials at reduced dimensionality are among the main emerging issues of research in condensed matter physics. These aspects are combined in arrays of Josephson junctions (JJ), of nanoparticles, and of quantum dots as well as semiconductor superlattices which are the scope of this workshop. Arrays of these systems and their hybrid structures may display not only new fundamental physics but also serve as a basis for future terahertz electronic and quantum computing technology. In particular, special attention will be given to novel photonic methods of optical and microwave characterisation of these systems which are contactless, fast, informative and, therefore, most efficient and simple in use. The workshop will cover all aspects of the physics and potential applications of such systems.
This is the inaugural workshop of the ESF network Arrays of Quantum Dots and Josephson Junctions. The aim is to enable participants to become familiar with each others' research and thereby enhance collaboration.
Each technical session of the workshop will comprise invited lectures (50 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion) and brief communications (25 minutes + 5 minutes for discussion).
English is the official language.
PhD students and young researchers are encouraged to participate and submit their work for oral or poster presentation.
The registration fee is 300 Euros and includes the cost of accommodation. In many cases the fee may be paid by ESF. Those registering will be informed if they will need to pay the fee themselves. Travel expenses will not be re-imbursed except in exceptional circumstances. Please use the online registration form to register and to upload your abstract.
The workshop will be held at Medena on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, close to Split airport. The accommodation will be at Hotel Medena which is by the sea, close to Trogir (a small medieval town) some 30 km from Split.
Participants are recommended to fly to Split airport and then take a taxi.
