The Loughborough University /University of Minnesota Duluth
Student Exchange Program
In recent years, numerous universities in the United States have established student exchange programs with universities all over the world. Having an international study component to one's education carries with it a statement about the breadth your knowledge of the world around you. At a time when many companies have research & development, management and information divisions (as well as customers!) distributed all around the world, the participation in a formal exchange program is a valuable component to one's resume. For this reason, study abroad experiences are becoming a common component to many students' college educations.
In 2003, the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Loughborough University (UK) and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UMD initiated an undergraduate student exchange programme. This programme allows students interested in participating in an international study experience to do so without delaying their progress towards graduation.
This page includes some basic information regarding the exchange programme, and includes a number of links for students wanting to learn more about this opportunity.
Good Questions:

A: Duluth is located on Lake Superior in Minnesota about 150 miles north of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul.
Q: What is UMD like?
A: The university of Minnesota at Duluth (UMD) is a medium-size university with a student body size of about 10,000. Facts about UMD are available here.

A: UMD and LU run on slightly different semester calendars. As such, it is most convenient for LU students to visit UMD during the UMD Fall term, and UMD students to visit LU during the LU Spring term, which starts in early February and runs though early June. At the moment the exchange is only available for third year mathematics students.

She can be reached at 726-8229, or via ints@d.umn.edu. Questions about LU classes, degree requirement substitutions, and transfer issues should be addressed to the UMD Math/Stat International Exchange Advisor, who is Department Head Harlan Stech (726-8272, or via hstech@d.umn.edu.) While studying at LU, UMD student are advised by Professor Roger Smith of the LU Department of Mathematical Sciences, who is the designated LU Math Sciences International Exchange Advisor. Q: When do I apply?
A: The UMD deadline for applying for admission to the LU/UMD Exchange Program is Easter. But tell your tutor as soon as possible if you are contemplating participation in this exchange program, so that your class selections at UMD will provide you the best preparation for a fruitful and enjoyable study abroad experience.
