Welcome to the web site of the Expeditions Society at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
| The Expeditions Society exists to encourage and support student
led expeditions through the development of skills and the dissemination
of information. We do this through regular weekend meetings in the mountains,
evening seminars and lectures, social events, the maintenance of a library
and pool of equipment, contacts with other bodies (including the British
Mountaineering Council and the Royal
Geographical Society) and the expertise of our membership. Our members
include climbers, walkers, mountain bikers, canoeists, general outdoor
enthusiasts and less energetic people with an interest in expeditions.
The Society is different to many other University outdoor pursuits groups in that our activities don't have formal leaders. We believe that outdoor pursuits should be undertaken as groups of peers with each member taking responsibilty for themselves. Although we don't provide formal training, all our more experienced members are happy to give less experience members help and advice in any way they can. More information about our objectives is available. |
