Objectives
The
Expeditions
Society exists to encourage and support student led expeditions through
the development of skills and the dissemination of information. We are
a group of enthusiastic climbers, walkers, mountain bikers, canoeists and
general outdoor enthusiasts.
That's all well and good, but what do we actually do?
We have three types of activities:
-
Practical days, weekends and weeks away in wilderness areas. Enjoy yourself
whilst practising existing skills and learning new ones.
-
Training seminars and discussions. Learn the skills you need to survive
in the wilderness and plan your own expeditions. These take place in Aber
and at the Royal Geographical Society in London.
-
Social events. When we can't be on an expedition, we can at least get together
and dream about it! Also a chance to sign up for forthcoming events.
In addition, the members of the society have a considerable amount of expertise
between then in expedition planning, logistics and fundraising. If no-one
in the society knows the answers to your questions they can probably be
found in the society's library collection
or via our close links with the Royal
Geographical Society's Expeditions
Advisory Centre.
If you have any other ideas for activities you would like to do, come
along to our social events (see the events page)
and persuade us to do it!
For your protection the society is a affiliated to the British
Mountaineering Council which provides additional insurance and
access to the best training and advice on outdoor activities. Members of
the society regularly attend BMC training courses.
Our constitution is available on the
web.
