Biography

Dr. Guan was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Loughborough University in 2006. She received her PhD in 2005 from University of Bradford, UK, after which she was appointed as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant for one year. She then held a project manager/software engineer position in Simulation Systems Ltd in Bristol shortly, prior to moving to Loughborough. Her research interests focus on performance modelling/evaluation of heterogeneous computer networks, QoS analysis and enhancements, congestion control mechanisms, mobile computing and wireless sensor networks. She has published over 40 journal and conference papers on these topics and has been a referee for many international journals. She has been serving as guest co-editor for several international journal special issues, such as those published by Elsevier and Springer. She has served on program committees of over 20 international conferences/workshops, including co-chairs and publicity chairs. During her PhD, she was awarded the British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG) Foundation Main Grant in 2004, involved in the EPSRC project “Stochastic analysis of congestion control for Internet traffic with QoS constraints” between 2003 to 2006, and was a team member within PERFORM group in Bradford for the European Network of Excellence FP6 (NoE-NGi), Design and Engineering of the Next Generation Internet: Towards the Convergence of Multi-Service Heterogeneous Networks between 2004 to 2006.

As an academic staff in LU, she currently holds two CASE awards and one EngD on EPSRC/industry projects and she is an academic host for two visiting professors from overseas. She has successfully bid for HEFCE research capital investment fund twice to help the department extend specialist lab facilities to include a practical networking laboratory and a real-time network test-bed. She has co-developed the Open Data Networks Research Platform project funded by BAE. Her other two international collaboration projects are funded by British Council Treaty of Windsor Programme (2008~2009) and Chinese research council (2008-2010). She recently received a prestigious award as Royal Society Industry Fellow in collaboration with BAE systems.
