onzo smart energy kit

"Onzo's smart energy kit provides a powerful energy management tool for the consumer. It consists of a sensor, display and integrated website. The display interprets and delivers simple actionable information to users in real-time, empowering them to make positive decisions about how they use energy. The display can be connected to a home computer to upload data to the website via the internet"[1].

Onzo "devices instantly start collecting data and delivering useful, relevant feedback...they track how power is used, increasing consumers’ understanding and enabling utilities to find intelligent ways to meet their needs" [1].

Onzo have also recently acquired an agreement to incorporate appliance identification software (“Coracle”) into their products. Coracle, developed by Sentec, "takes data on whole house usage and disaggregates this into use by different appliances. Consumers can then see what is driving their energy use without the need to monitor every single appliance" [2].

The smart energy kit features include:
• Versatile positioning, with a reversible back that will enable it to be free-standing, attached to a refrigerator or hung from a wall;
• A clear, simple display showing the most useful, actionable information;
• Intelligent EnergyTools with eye-catching symbols;
• A soft rubber surround to make the device tactile and increase its sturdiness;
• Easily rechargeable batteries.

The Onzo sensor clips to one of the cables coming from the electricity meter. It is designed for easy installation by the user. The sensor is pioneering in many ways:

• It “harvests” its power from the cable to which it is attached, removing the need ever to replace its batteries;
• It operates on ultra low power – costing less than a penny for a years’ operation;
• It stores up to 10 years’ data;
• It provides highly accurate measurement of energy consumption.
