how others have done it > manual dishwashing concept
manual dishwashing concept

This concept, which aims to save water during manual dishwashing, was designed by Gloria Elizondo as part of her Masters in Industrial Design at Loughborough University in 2008.

The intention of this design was to develop a feasible and attractive water saving system for kitchen sinks that is suitable even for small apartments (single living) since from new households formed (2008-2018) 72% will be single person households and these tend to use up to 50% more water per person that a 2 people household (Defra, 2006).

The manual dishwashing system would work by using recycled water dispensed from heavy mist sprayers to pre-rinse dirty dishes and cutlery to get rid of food residues. The grey water used for this purpose would then be filtered and stored for use in the pre-rinse stage of the next wash. Virtually no water would be wasted.
