home joule

Demand for energy and the price of energy changes constantly throughout the day in some countries such as the US and the Netherlands.

"S
aving energy (and money) is easier if we have a general idea of when we should use fewer lights and appliances, but most of us don’t know exactly when the peak times for energy consumption are"[1]

Home Joule, designed by Ambient Devices, alerts people to the real-time price of energy per kilowatt direct from the energy provider. It indicates the rise or fall of prices through a graduating shift of background colour from green (low) through yellow (medium) to red (high) and via a simple bar chart (the longer the bar the more expensive). You just plug it into an electrical socket to tune into to the Ambient Infocast Network.

Home Joule also receives data wirelessly from your energy meter. It displays how much energy is being used in real-time on a simple graph (the longer the bar, the more energy is being consumed). This enables the user to see, at a glance, when they should be reducing their electricity consumption to save money.

Ambient Devices create products that display information via subtle changes in colour, sound and icons.  To learn more about Ambient Devices other products visit: http://www.ambientdevices.com/cat/index.html
