flower pod

Designed by the Danish group Designnord, the FlowerPod is “a semi-transparent screen with an electronic flower display that grows, blooms or wilts according to how smartly the inhabitants of a house or apartment are using heating, cooling, water and electricity” [1].

Connected wirelessly to the homes electricity meter, the FlowerPod would also communicate with an individual web-based site that would “keep track of average energy use in the city or region where the devise is "planted" [and]… suggest ways to improve energy usage if your flower was wilted, or dying” [1].

Similar concepts include the Flower Lamp, designed by the Interactive Institute under the Static! project and the Wilting Flower concept by Carl Smith, a graduate of the Industrial Design and Technology programme at Loughborough University.
