"eco:Drive is an innovative, easy-to-use computer
application that will help you improve how efficiently you drive. It
analyses your driving style and helps you to use less fuel, reducing
your CO2 emissions and saving you money" [1].
The program consists of a downloadable Adobe AIR application and a
Microsoft Blue&Me equipped Fiat vehicle. The customer simply installs
the software on their computer, plugs a USB drive into the port located
in the car, then removes the USB to download the data. eco:Drive is a
"Beta" application which means that as eco:Drivers provide feedback the
application will automatically update and improve.
The system works by processing all the information relating to the
vehicle’s efficiency and your driving characteristicsin detail whilst
you drive [2]. Data gathered
whilst driving is saved on to a USB key inserted into the "Blue&Me’s USB
port" installed in the vehicle. "On plugging back into the computer, the
eco:Drive application analyzes the information and offers tips to
improve fuel economy and emissions. You can also track the mileage, and
emissions from the application’s interface" [3]. The software also features "a series of
progressive tutorials" where "you can improve your score" Users can also
join “ecoVille” - an online community - specifically created for Fiat’s
“ecoDrivers”, where everyone can share interests and their commitment to
an eco-responsible way of driving by accessing the site" [1].
FIat indicate that "drivers who are more conscious of their
“eco-responsible” driving can expect to improve their driving style by
15%, and that means: reduce CO2 emissions by 15% and see an annual
saving in fuel of between 120 and 200 Euro" [1].
